Third Annual Aaron Lewis Invitational Charity Golf Tournament and Fourth Annual Aaron Lewis & Friends Benefit Concert Raise $250,000 for It Takes a Community Foundation

Grants Pledged to Multiple Nonprofit Organizations

Nashville, Tenn. (Aug. 20, 2014) — The fourth annual Aaron Lewis & Friends Benefit Concert, held on June 27, and the third annual Aaron Lewis Invitational Golf Tournament, held on August 9, raised a combined total of $250,000 for the It Takes a Community Foundation (ITAC), a charity founded by Lewis in 2010. One hundred percent of the proceeds were donated to the foundation, which helps to revive rural communities across New England by providing assistance that strengthens, enriches and preserves local towns. The ITAC foundation supports initiatives that improve community life — particularly the lives of children — within rural areas.

“It Takes a Community began when my family joined with neighbors in our small adopted home town to keep the doors of our community school open after state funding was eliminated due to district consolation,” explains Aaron. “It started out as something very personal and close-to-home, but is morphing into something bigger. If we can make a difference in our little corner of Massachusetts, couldn’t we give additional worthy organizations in our area a similar leg up?”

Helping to reopen and fund the RH Conwell School as a private community education center was the catalyst and origin of the It Takes A Community Foundation. The school has also been the primary beneficiary ITAC’s fundraising efforts since 2010. However, over the past year the residents of Worthington successfully lobbied the state for special legislation that allows the tax dollars of their town to stay in Worthington rather than be pooled into the regional school system.

Lewis was happy to announce to the attendees of the ITAC Charity Golf tournamentthat, “As of September 2015, our school will once again be a public elementary school for the children of Worthington, Mass.” He went on to explain, “This milestone of self-sufficiency will allow It Takes a Community to continue its growth goals and mission by increasing the number of organizations that receive grant money from the ITAC foundation.” For example, in addition to the R.H. Conwell School, this year’s concert and tournament proceeds are being shared among Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County, Greenfield Education Foundation and the YMCA of Hampshire County’s Camp Norwich Improvement Fund

“We have seen first-hand the necessity for smaller communities to have a voice and to determine their own local needs and priorities,” said Aaron. “We are extremely happy and proud that the R.H. Conwell School is reopening as a public elementary school and we’re excited to expand the foundation and take on new projects.”

Fourth Annual Aaron Lewis Invitational Charity Golf Tournament Raises $75,000 for It Takes a Community Foundation

Grants Pledged to Multiple Nonprofit Organizations

Nashville, Tenn. (September 16, 2015) — The fourth annual Aaron Lewis Invitational Golf Tournament, held on August 1 in Bernardson, MA raised a net total of $75,000 for the It Takes a Community Foundation (ITAC), a charity founded by Lewis in 2010. The event which includes an 18 Hole Golf Tournament, charity auction, and an evening acoustic performance Lewis was attended by 300 people. One hundred percent of the proceeds were donated to the foundation, which helps fund vital programs, education and services to communities in need of support. ITAC works with local leaders and organizations that have firsthand knowledge of the needs in their area to support initiatives that improve community life — particularly the lives of children and families.

“It Takes a Community began as way to support the efforts of my small adopted home town to keep the doors of our community elementary school open after state funding was eliminated due to district consolation,” explains Lewis. “It started out as something very personal and close-to-home, but it has morphed into something bigger.”

Helping to reopen and fund the RH Conwell School in Worthington MA as a private community education center was the catalyst and origin of the It Takes A Community Foundation. The school was the primary beneficiary ITAC’s fundraising efforts from 2010 to 2013. However, after the residents of Worthington successfully lobbied the state for special legislation that allows the tax dollars of their town to stay in Worthington rather than be pooled into the regional school system, the school opened the 2015 academic year as public school once again.

The school going public again means it requires significantly less private financial support and frees up ITAC to continue growing and expanding its impact by increasing the number of organizations that receive grants. “I’m happy and proud that the R.H. Conwell School is reopening as a public elementary school and it’s exciting to expand the foundation and take on new projects.” For example, this year’s tournament proceeds are being shared among Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, Greenfield Education Foundation.

About It Takes A Community:

Noted musician Aaron Lewis  founded It Takes A Community Foundation (ITACF) when the State of Massachusetts eliminated funding for the R.H. Conwell School in Worthington, MA. The school had served the children of the hill towns in the area since the 1940s and was one of the only community buildings in tiny Worthington. The school closure was devastating to the entire community.

ITACF was founded in July 2010 to save the school. The support provided through ITACF provided the bulk of the funding to re-open the public facility as a private community school open to all local students. The R.H. Conwell experience demonstrated that rural communities can help themselves if residents work together and have adequate resources. Over the years the foundation has expanded its reach. ITACF now provides funding and guidance to a wide array of organizations that play a vital role in improving community life — particularly the lives of children and families.

ITACF raises funds and supports organizations or efforts that:

  • Strengthen, engage and enrich rural New England communities
  • Sustain diminishing public services
  • Provide assistance to communities in crisis
We share our expertise and provide financial assistance to empower citizens and organizations to take charge of their own community’s future. ITACF works to unite resources and ideas to help people and communities create a better tomorrow.
